Walter Rodrigo Garcia Castro was 80 years old when he passed away Monday, June 17, 2024 surrounded by his adoring family. Born in Ambato-Ecuador, Walter completed his studies and later served in the Army in Ecuador before immigrating to the United States at the age of 21. He had lived in New York City and later most of his life in Brooklyn, NY before settling in New Jersey. Walter worked for many years making leather handbags, finishing the rest of his working years with the Board of Education. Walter was a passionate soccer fan, he often played recreational soccer and volleyball as well as his favorite card game cuarenta.
Walter is survived by his beloved wife Laura Garcia Carvajal of 51 years. He was the loving father of Sylvia, Sharon and her husband Marcelo, Loren and her husband Daniel, and Vinicio and his wife Yvette. He is also survived by his cherished grandchildren Victoria, Adam, Bianca, Gabriel, José, Daniel, Angel, Selena and Nicholas as well as his adored great granddaughter Pamela Rose. Walter was the devoted brother of Washington, Georgina, Ruben, and Marcelo. He was predeceased by his late brothers Carlos, Enrique, and late sister Aleja. He was also the beloved uncle of Hernan and Myriam.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours at the Boulevard Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 1151 River Road, New Milford, NJ 07646 on Monday, June 24th from 1pm to 3pm and 6pm to 9pm. A Wake Service will be offered at 2pm in the funeral home.
The following day, Tuesday, June 25th, a Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. John the Evangelist's Roman Catholic Church, 29 North Washington Avenue, Bergenfield, NJ 07621 at 11am. Cremation will follow at Rosedale Crematory, 408 Orange Road, Montclair, NJ 07042.
