Robert Nimmo Atkinson

Robert Nimmo Atkinson was 89 years old when he passed away Tuesday, October 12th 2021. Born and raised in Renfrew, Scotland, Robert immigrated to the United States in 1965 with his wife Elizabeth. The couple would initially live in Connecticut and worked for  Professor Richard Ruggles and his wife Nancy with whom they traveled the world. The couple would later move to Baltimore, Maryland to assist the legendary operatic Soprano, Rosa Ponselle. In 1969 Robert and Elizabeth settled in Bergenfield NJ where they have lived until now. Robert went on to become a self employed painting and wall covering contractor. He was the Past District Deputy and Master of the Lodge for the former Bergenfield/Teaneck Free & Accepted Masons. Robert played semi-pro soccer in Scotland and enjoyed coaching his son in youth soccer as well as coaching little league baseball. 

Robert is survived by his beloved wife Elizabeth (nee McCabe) of 67 years. He is the loving father of Greig Atkinson and his wife Irina and Michele Brown and her husband Chris. Robert is the brother of Ada Conway and Jack Atkinson and his wife Kay. He was predeceased by his late sister May Kelly and a brother Bill Atkinson. Robert is the cherished grandfather of Melody, Cory, and Bryan Atkinson and Jessica, Kyle, and Hailey Brown

A funeral service will be offered at 6:30 pm Friday evening in the Boulevard Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 1151 River Road, New Milford. Visiting hours will be held after the funeral service from 7 pm to 9pm. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital at www.stjude.org or the Shriners Hospitals for Children at www.lovetotherescue.org
