Rita Maria Petrie

Rita Maria (Smith), 77, passed away on January 6th, 2024 in Oradell, NJ.

Rita was born in New York on January 5th, 1947 and was a loving and devoted wife to William. Their love story lasted for over 50 years of marriage.

After raising their children, Rita went back to work and served as Assistant to the Principal at David E. Owens Middle School in New Milford for over 20 years, retiring in 2012.  Dating back to 1978, Rita has been a faithful and active member of St. Joseph’s Parish in Oradell, NJ, where she volunteered her time and service whenever possible.  Most of all, though, Rita was a dedicated wife, a selfless mother, and a proud Grandmother.   She gave everything she had for her family, making each holiday special, never missing a sporting event, and loving unconditionally with her whole heart.

Rita is survived by her sons William, Dean, and Scott, her daughters-in-law, Arlene and Tracy, and her grandchildren Shelby, Evan, Sydney, Daphne, Thomas, Eric and Jonathan.

Visitation is scheduled for Thursday, January 11th 4PM to 8PM at Boulevard Funeral Home & Cremation Service in New Milford. Funeral services will be held at 11 AM on Friday, January 12th at St. Joseph's Church in Oradell.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Saint Joseph Church or the Salesians Mission in Rita’s memory.
