Peter John Malatesta

Peter J. Malatesta, 78 of New Milford, passed away July 31, 2025, at Mountainside Hospital after a long illness. He was predeceased by his parents, Madeline and Mario Malatesta of Ridgefield Park, NJ.

Peter was a graduate of St. Peter’s Prep and St. Peter’s College, Jersey City, NJ. He served in the military and was a veteran of the Vietnam War.

After his service in the army, he returned home and began his business career with New York Telephone Company. He was employed by the phone company for thirty-eight years until he retired from Verizon as a manager.

Peter enjoyed music, theater, sports, and traveling, and in his earlier days was involved with Village Players and a Bergen County Theater Group. Most of all, he enjoyed socializing with friends and family, and traveling to exciting destinations in the U.S., the Caribbean, Canada, and Europe. He was blessed to have shared numerous good times throughout his life.

He was a caring and generous man and will be missed greatly by Loretta Szecsi, as well as family members and friends.

Peter was a parishioner at Ascension Church, New Milford, NJ, where his funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, at 11 a.m. Viewing will be at Boulevard Funeral Home from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. Following mass, burial will be at Holy Name Cemetery, Jersey City, NJ.
