Nancy Jane Schlicht

Nancy Jane Schlicht, 93, passed away on June 21, 2026. She was born on September 24, 1932, in Hackensack, NJ. Nancy was predeceased by her parents Joseph and Ethel Stumpf; her brothers Charles and William Stumpf; her sister Joan Van Tieghem; and her daughter Linda Schlicht.

Nancy grew up in Hackensack, NJ, and discovered her lifelong passion for nursing while volunteering as a candy striper in high school. Nancy attended Hackensack Hospital School of Nursing and worked in a vast array of specialties throughout her 40-plus-year career, including the Polio/Iron Lung Unit and the Burn Unit at Hackensack Hospital; the Tuberculosis Sanatorium at the Herman M. Biggs Memorial Hospital; Greystone Park Psychiatric Hospital; local doctor’s offices and women’s clinics; the emergency department and clinic at Bergen Pines Hospital; and more.

Nancy touched the lives of countless patients, families and fellow staff with her compassionate, confident and professional manner. Even decades after retirement, she could recall her patients’ names and life stories and would share her remarkable experiences caring for them. It was evident to anyone who listened that nursing was her life’s work.

Nancy raised six beloved children in Hillsdale, NJ, and later moved to Montvale, NJ. She is survived by her daughter Cindy O’Neill; daughter Beth McCoy; son Roger Schlicht; daughter Ginger (Martin) Masters; and daughter Jennifer (Gary) Leach. She was Oma to 13 cherished grandchildren — Kevin McCoy; Tyler Schlicht; Kaite and Tommy O’Neill; Amy and Jessi Schlicht; Adam, Emily, Andrew and Ben Masters; and Bryan, Victoria and Brianna Leach — and her great-grandbaby, Amelia McCoy.

Nancy showered her family with love and kept us all laughing with her riotous sense of humor. She was never without sweets for her grandkids and biscuits for her granddoggies. She made a mean pot roast, loved to dance, created gorgeous wreaths, completed word searches faster than anyone, and adored the beach. Most of all, she was the center of our universe, the matriarch of our family, the best among us, and she will be missed terribly. We find comfort knowing she is eating chocolate, sipping coffee, and loving us all to the moon and back in Heaven.
