Mary Barbara (née Kononowicz) Klimcak was 100 years old when she passed away Saturday, October 21, 2023. Born in Chelsea, Mass. Mary was a resident of New Milford for over 60 years. She was a graduate of St. Stanislaus High School, Chelsea MA. Mary took great pride in being a welder on warships during WWII, and later worked in the textile business for Joseph Love in New York City and as an executive secretary of sales for Puritan Mills in Bogota NJ. Mary loved life and especially her family. She always said “she had a wonderful life with no regrets”.
Mary was the beloved wife of Joseph Lawrence Klimcak Sr. He was a Chief Gunners mate in the US Navy and was injured at the attack on Pearl Harbor, while docked on the USS Maryland. It was kismet when they met in Chelsea during his recovery at the Veterans Hospital, and they married 30 days later. Their philanthropic interest was providing clothing to Native American children in schools and orphanages in the south west US.
Mary was predeceased by her husband Joseph L. Klimcak Sr (1995). She is survived by her loving sons Joseph Klimcak Jr, and Charles Klimcak and his wife Midori, and her daughter Elizabeth Bray and her husband Robert. Mary was the devoted grandmother of Michael and his wife Monica, Sophie and Stephen, as well as her cherished great grandchildren Cy and Regan.
Family and friends are invited to attend visiting hours in the funeral home on Wednesday from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm. The following morning, Thursday, a Funeral Mass will be celebrated in her memory at 9:30 am at the Church of the Ascension, New Milford. Entombment to follow at Garden of Memories, Mausoleum, Washington Township.
