Marion Daphney Obituary

Marion Eleanor Lorick Daphney, the beloved matriarch of the Daphney family, peacefully passed away on April 14, 2026, at the age of 95. Born on January 26, 1931, in Harlem, New York, to James D. Lorick and Blanche McKenzie Lorick, Marion lived a long and full life defined by resilience, hard work, and an unwavering devotion to those she loved.

Marion was one of five children and the last surviving sibling of the Lorick family, carrying their history and stories with grace. She received her education at Morris High School, graduating in June 1948, where she developed the sharp mind and strong work ethic that would guide her throughout her life. She began her career at Bell Atlantic, where she worked for many years before choosing to stay home to raise her only daughter. Upon returning to the workforce, Marion dedicated herself to the New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA), where she ultimately retired as a Housing Assistant in 1997.

She was the devoted wife of the late Edward Daphney, who preceded her in death. Together, they built a foundation of love that has spanned generations. Marion's life was centered on her family; she was the person everyone could count on.

She is survived by two of her three children, Edward Daphney Jr., who cared for her until her passing, and Darlene Daphney. Her eldest son, Gregory, predeceased her in 2005. She also leaves behind nine grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, and several cherished great-great-grandchildren, as well as a host of nieces and nephews. Her legacy lives on through the family she so affectionately nurtured.

Central to Marion's heart was her exceptionally close relationship with her granddaughter, Lanisha Tuller. Marion did more than carry the title of grandmother; she raised Lanisha as her own, instilling in her the same values of strength and grace she carried herself. This bond only deepened over time, as Marion remained a constant and active presence in the lives of Lanisha's children, helping to raise them and ensuring they were enveloped in the same maternal warmth that shaped their mother.

There was never a milestone, crisis, or celebration where Marion did not show up for her children and grandchildren, offering her presence as a source of steady strength. Marion will be deeply missed, forever loved, and always remembered by all who had the blessing of knowing her.
