Luis Carlos Carrillo

Luis Carlos was born in Pereira  Colombia,  South America on May 21, 1930 to  Maria Isabel Correa and Damoso Manuel Carrillo. Luis is survived by his sons, Luis Eugenio and his wife Mary of North Andover, MA, John Manual and his wife Mary of Minneapolis, MN, his daughter, Martha Lucia  Carrillo  and her fiance Daniel Danzico, her son Justin Carrillo of Paramus, NJ. He leaves behind an extended family in Florida and Colombia. 

He  married Fabiola Cespedes in Cali, Colombia 1960. He got the opportunity to come to  the United States with his family when sponsored by his sister-in-law, Ligia Staib in 1965. Together they packed their few belongings and  3 very young children.  With determination, courage, and  faith they took a chance to start a new life in America. 

Luis and Fabiola worked very hard to live the "American Dream"  for their family despite their language barrier. They provided an education for their children,  bought a home in New Milford, NJ, lived  a happy and rewarding life with his family and friends especially during the holiday season.

Luis enjoyed  his music especially tangos, writing poetry, the company of others when possible, dancing when he was younger, helping out family and friends whenever possible: a real handyman, outdoor walks and travel with Fabiola. 

He worked extensively in the textile industry and raised to a level of shift supervisor. After his retirement, he became a crossing guard for 15 years with the New Milford, NJ Police Department. A post he held with great pride. He also did tax searches with Priority Search Services for several years.

He was a wonderful and caring grandfather and helped raise Justin Carrillo. Luis Carlos being a Boy Scout in Colombia also mentored Justin who went on to become an Eagle Scout.

In May 2017 Luis returned to Colombia  with his son Luis to visit family. It was a great homecoming filled with joy and pleasure to be reunited with their family in his native country. 

Fabiola, his wife of nearly 55 years passed away in  August 2016 from dementia. He managed to live alone with help from his family, friends, and Florina, a wonderful caregiver, until November 2019. 

He moved into the Bristal at Englewood Assisted Living community in November 2019.

When the covid pandemic hit in early 2020 he kept his spirits high by exercising,  walking the halls, and having a good sense of humor. Luis used his "mental powers " to battle solitude and long quiet days during the pandemic. 

The Bristal community at Englewood did everything possible to assure that he was safe and well cared both physically and mentally during his residency. 

He passed away suddenly on March 28, 2021 from a severe stroke with his family present.

He had faith in his religion which was evident in the love he had for his family and friends. He always believed in  never giving up, seeking a higher education, to find a solution to your problems, and to make yourself and those around you a better person. 

We'll miss his smile, sense of humor, wise refranes/”dichos”, his warm and genuine character,  and his love of life no matter what happened.

We are forever proud of his sacrifices,  accomplishments, endeavors throughout his long life. 

Dad, we'll miss you but never forget you.

The Carrillo Family

Luis Carlos nació en Pereira Colombia, Sudamérica el 21 de mayo de 1930 a María Isabel Correa y Damoso Manuel Carrillo.  A Luis le sobreviven sus hijos, Luis Eugenio y su esposa Mary de North Andover, MA, John Manual y su esposa Mary de Minneapolis, MN, su hija, Martha Lucia Carrillo y su prometido Daniel Danzico, su hijo Justin Carrillo de Paramus, NJ  .  Deja una familia extensa en Florida y Colombia.

Se casó con Fabiola Céspedes en Cali, Colombia 1960. Tuvo la oportunidad de venir a los Estados Unidos con su familia cuando fue apadrinado por su cuñada, Ligia Staib en 1965. Juntos empacaron sus pocas pertenencias y 3 niños muy pequeños.  Con determinación, coraje y fe, se arriesgaron a comenzar una nueva vida en Estados Unidos.

Luis y Fabiola trabajaron muy duro para vivir el "Sueño Americano" para su familia a pesar de la barrera del idioma.  Brindaron educación a sus hijos, compraron una casa en New Milford, Nueva Jersey, vivieron una vida feliz y gratificante con su familia y amigos, especialmente durante la temporada navideña.

Luis disfrutaba de su música especialmente los tangos, escribir poesía, la compañía de otros cuando era posible, bailar cuando era más joven, ayudar a familiares y amigos siempre que podía: un verdadero manitas, caminatas al aire libre y viajes con Fabiola.

Trabajó extensamente en la industria textil y ascendió al nivel de supervisor de turno.  Después de su retiro, se convirtió en guardia de cruce durante 15 años en el Departamento de Policía de New Milford, Nueva Jersey.  Un cargo que ocupó con gran orgullo.  También realizó búsquedas de impuestos con Priority Search Services durante varios años.

Fue un abuelo maravilloso y cariñoso y ayudó a criar a Justin Carrillo.  Luis Carlos, siendo un Boy Scout en Colombia, también fue mentor de Justin, quien luego se convirtió en Eagle Scout.

En mayo de 2017 Luis regresó a Colombia con su hijo Luis para visitar a su familia.  Fue un gran regreso a casa lleno de alegría y placer al reencontrarse con su familia en su país natal.

Fabiola, su esposa durante casi 55 años, falleció en agosto de 2016 de demencia.  Se las arregló para vivir solo con la ayuda de su familia, amigos y Florina, una maravillosa cuidadora, hasta noviembre de 2019.

Se mudó a la comunidad Bristal at Englewood Assisted Living en noviembre de 2019.

Cuando se produjo la pandemia de covid a principios de 2020, mantuvo el ánimo en alto haciendo ejercicio, caminando por los pasillos y teniendo un buen sentido del humor.  Luis usó sus "poderes mentales" para luchar contra la soledad y los largos días tranquilos durante la pandemia.

La comunidad de Bristal en Englewood hizo todo lo posible para asegurarse de que estuviera seguro y bien cuidado tanto física como mentalmente durante su residencia.

Falleció repentinamente el 28 de marzo de 2021 de un derrame cerebral severo con su familia presente.

Tenía fe en su religión, lo cual era evidente en el amor que tenía por su familia y amigos.  Siempre creyó en nunca darse por vencido, buscar una educación superior, encontrar una solución a sus problemas y hacer de usted y los que le rodean una mejor persona.

Extrañaremos su sonrisa, sentido del humor, refranes dichos, su carácter cálido y genuino, y su amor por la vida pase lo que pase.

Siempre estaremos orgullosos de sus sacrificios, logros y esfuerzos a lo largo de su larga vida.

Papá, te extrañaremos pero nunca te olvidaremos.

Puede que te hayas ido, pero no estás lejos.
