Louis M. Polis

Louis M. Polis of New Milford was 89 years old when he passed away Saturday, May 10, 2025. Born and raised in New York City, as a young man Louis worked in his family's restaurant. He would later enlist in the United States Army. While serving in the Army in North Carolina, Louis came home to propose to Joan Gill and the two returned to the Army base as husband and wife. Louis would later open the Polis Food Shop in Hackensack and go on start an industrial catering business which he ran for over 40 years. After retiring from food service, Louis found great joy working as a Crossing Guard assisting the children and parents in New Milford. He and his late wife Joan were longtime members of the Church of the Ascension in New Milford where they were founding member's of the Pre-Cana Marriage Preparation Program and were instrumental in bringing the Charismatic Prayer movement to the Church of the Ascension.

Louis is predeceased by his wife Joan A. (nee Gill) and their daughter the late Donna M. Van Kleeck. He is survived by his son Louis A. Polis and his wife Lynn, his son Jay C. Polis, and his daughter Anne Marie Keegan and her husband Thomas. Louis his survived by his brothers Frank Polis, Vincent "Jimmy" Polis, and Michael Polis. He is predeceased by his brother Thomas Polis. Louis is the grandfather of Michael Polis, Jaclyn Bayer, Justin Van Kleeck, Kyle Polis, Jason Van Kleeck, Joanna Keegan, and Michael Keegan. He is also survived by his great grandchildren Dylan, Thea, Carter, and Zoe.

Family and friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Sunday, May 18th from 2 pm to 6 pm at the Boulevard Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 1151 River Road, New Milford, NJ. The following morning, Monday, a Funeral Mass will be celebrated in his memory at 10 am in the Church of the Ascension, 256 Azalea Drive, New Milford. Following the Funeral Mass Louis will be entombed at the Garden of Memories, Washington Township, NJ.
