Joseph J. Maturo

Joseph J. Maturo of Kendall Park, formerly of Hackensack, passed away at home on Friday, September 23, surrounded by his loving family.  Born in Jersey City, Joe lived most of his 95 years in Bergen County.  Joe was a long-time union plumber in his work life, but his mechanical skills went far beyond plumbing.   His kids always believed he could fix just about anything!

As a father, Joe was a coach and mentor while his kids were growing.   After raising his family in Dumont, he pursued his dream of getting a pilot’s license and enjoyed flying a single engine aircraft. When he retired, he and his wife moved to Pennsylvania where they spent 20 years as active members of their Hemlock Farms Community.  Joe was a proud World War II veteran, a life-long student and an avid reader with a personal library of hundreds of books, many of which he read more than once!   

Joe was pre-deceased by his beloved wife of over 63 years, Leanor (Gurry) Maturo.  He was the devoted father of his daughter, Theresa Maturo and her spouse, Cynthia Brogdon, son Joseph Maturo, and his spouse Sarka Shaw, daughter Claire Torres, daughter Christine Demiris and her partner Kevin Martini and daughter Michelle Petrazzuolo.  He is survived by his cherished grandchildren Marissa Tattoli, Byron Maturo, Jocelyn Maturo, Peter Torres and Victoria Demiris as well as great grandchildren.

Friends and family are invited to a memorial gathering to celebrate Joseph’s life on Saturday, October 22 at Noon at Nanni’s Restaurant in Rochelle Park. The family requests any donation in his honor be made to St. Jude’s Research Hospital, a charity Lea and Joe supported from the time they were newlyweds.
