Jose Figueroa Obituary

Jose Luis Figueroa was born on May 23, 1969, in Ponce, Puerto Rico, to Jose Figueroa Lespier and Felicita Santiago Vega. He joined his siblings, Alicia Rodriguez and Danny Soli. Jose’s mother later moved the family to the Bronx, New York, where Jose grew up and completed his schooling.

As a senior in high school, Jose began his career as a Pharmacy Clerk at Moscoso Pharmacy in the Bronx, New York. In 1993, Jose and Marjory began dating, and they married in 1997. Together, they were blessed with a blended family of four children: Ashley Figueroa, Joey Figueroa, Robert Nieves, and Brandon Figueroa, along with their beloved “furry son,” Toby Figueroa. Jose was an incredible husband, father, and grandfather to Preston Nieves-Moran.

Jose will always be remembered as the life of the party—a great man with an infectious sense of humor who knew how to make everyone laugh and have a good time. He was kind, generous, and devoted to his family, friends, and community.

In March 2017, Jose was diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer’s disease, a rare form of the condition that affects individuals under the age of 65. Despite this challenging diagnosis, Jose and Marjory chose to embrace life to the fullest. Together, they navigated this uncertain journey with love, living one day at a time, cherishing moments with family and friends, enjoying the outdoors, dancing, and traveling. A talented dancer, Jose loved all kinds of music, though freestyle and salsa were his favorites. The love and partnership Jose and Marjory shared remain a true inspiration—a testament to the promise of “till death do us part.”

Jose is survived by his mother, Felicita Santiago Vega (“Fita”); his wife, Marjory Figueroa; his children, Ashley Figueroa, Joey Figueroa, Robert J. Nieves, Brandon Joel Figueroa, and Toby Figueroa; and his grandson, Preston Moran Nieves. He is also survived by his sister, Alicia Rodriguez; his brother, Danny Soli; his mother-in-law, Veronica Palacio; and his brothers- and sisters-in-law, Mayra and Luis Irizarry, Connie and Eddie Uribe, and Pablito and Kathy Palacio. Additionally, Jose leaves behind a large extended family, including aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
