John Bigger Obituary

John F. Bigger    November 1, 1959 - February 28, 2020

John F. Bigger, 60, passed away on Friday, February 28, 2020, with his wife by his side.  Born November 1,1959 in Passaic, NJ, John spent his early life in West Milford. He graduated from Virginia Military Institute in 1981 with a BA in History. Soon after, he started his career in law enforcement. After serving a number of years with the Manville Police Department, he later became an officer with the Hudson County Prosecutor's Office (HCPO) where he retired as Sergeant, after 20 years of service.  During his tenure, John was assigned various units, such as Gambling, Insurance Fraud, and Narcotics. He was also the first HCPO Officer appointed to the "D.A.R.E.” program, later becoming a trainer, and eventually President of the executive board for the entire state. Additionally, John served as a state delegate for Local 232, where he held positions as President, Secretary, and Treasurer throughout his career.

John's legacy may be remembered most for his participation in the town of New Milford, where he moved to in 1995.  His dedication to this community grew after his retirement from the force, in 2007. He held a number of roles including Director of Recreation, Coach, and Board Member for the New Milford Little League (VP).  He worked tirelessly on raising money for the Little League and the Athletic Booster club (where he was President). John also involved himself in the education of the children of New Milford by serving as a Board of Education member.  He was active in the Presbyterian Church, where he was an Elder.   John looked forward to his weekly golf games with his buddies. He loved the game and all the enthusiasm which goes with a par or birdie after a well played hole.

John was the loving husband to Annette Gennat Bigger, whom he adored, and a devoted father to his son, Ryan, and daughter, Erin. His family was his pride and joy.  He was an avid sports fan, who never missed his children’s games. He loved rooting for the Packers even to the dismay of Annette, a die-hard Jets fan. He was the chef of their home, he loved to cook, entertain, and be surrounded by the ones he loved. John is missed and will always be cherished.

He was predeceased by his mother Winifred Bigger and his father Thomas Bigger. He is survived by his sister Deborah Palazzo and husband John and brother Thomas Bigger and wife Patricia and five nieces and nephews.

Friends and family are invited to attend a memorial visitation in the Funeral Home on Saturday March 14, 2020 from 1-5 pm and a brief blessing at 5 pm. John will be sorely missed by all who knew him, but he is at peace and looking down to continue to help those in need.
