Honesto Imperio Castaneda was 89 years old when he passed away Monday, September 28, 2020. Born and raised in Bulacan, Philippines, Honesto immigrated to the United States in 1969. His family would later travel from the Philippines to join him in 1973 to live in the Bronx. Honesto would later move his family to Bergenfield, New Jersey where they settled and have resided since 1978.
Honesto is the beloved husband of Araceli (nee Tatoy) Castaneda. He is the loving father of Edwin Castaneda and his wife, Jeseline, Joe Castaneda and his wife, Michelle and Elaine Kehoe and her husband, Christopher. Honesto is the cherished grandfather of Christian, Gabrielle, Chelsea, Abigail, John, Nicholas, Caroline and Noah. Honesto was predeceased by his late daughter, Maria Veronica. Honesto is survived by his devoted sisters, Julieta, Violeta, Flordeliza and Luzviminda. He is also survived by his brothers, Idilio and Constante. He was predeceased by his siblings, Romeo, Norma, Melita, and Erasmo.
Honesto worked as a Mechanical Engineer and spent the majority of his career with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. He loved spending time with his family, especially with his grandchildren. He enjoyed traveling, ballroom dancing and playing solitaire while eating peanuts. He spent most of his retirement years in Florida.
Family and friends are invited to attend visiting hours at the Boulevard Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 1151 River Road, New Milford, NJ on Friday evening from 5pm to 8pm. Saturday morning a funeral mass will be celebrated in his memory in the Church of the Ascension, New Milford at 9:30 am. A private cremation will follow. For those wishing to attend the funeral mass in the Church of the Ascension, due to COVID 19 restrictions, preregistration is required.
