Gerald “Gerry” Hickey of Fort Lee, formerly of Bergenfield (age 88) joined his loving wife of 54 years, Mary (nee Kennedy) in heaven on Monday June 19th, 2023. The son of Walter and Bessie (nee Dowd) Hickey, Gerry was born in Brooklyn on February 5, 1935 and spent summers on Long Island. After graduating from Franklin K. Lane HS, Gerry proudly served in the 14th Calvary Division of the United States Army from 1954-56 alongside his identical twin Walter. When he returned from his service in Fulda, Germany, Gerry earned a Bachelor of Arts from Fairleigh Dickinson University while beginning his career with the telephone company as a technician. After 35 years of service, Gerry retired as a systems analyst from AT&T. Gerry was a longtime parishioner of the Church of the Ascension serving as a Eucharistic minister, and as co-chair with his wife of the CYO sports league. Gerry was very active in his community with the New Milford and Fort Lee VFWs. Gerry also served as the past Commander of the American Legion in Bergenfield as well as the Knight's of Columbus. Gerry will mostly be remembered for his kind heart, generous spirit, faithful friendship, and for the frequent parties he and Mary hosted throughout their many years together. Gerry is predeceased by his loving wife of 54 years Mary (nee Kennedy) Hickey, and his dear brothers Walter and Raymond. He is survived by his daughters Meegan Hickey-Levine and Mora Hickey. Gerry is the cherished grandfather of Jackson, David, Timothy, Ryan and Grace and many adoring nieces and nephews.
Viewing at The Boulevard Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 1511 River Rd., New Milford, NJ on Thursday June 22nd from 4-8 PM. A funeral Mass will be held on Friday June 23rd at The Church of the Ascension at 10AM.
