Eleni Karsos (Petrou), passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 3, 2020 at her home in Bergenfield, NJ.
Eleni, daughter of Kostas and Maria Petrou grew up in the village of Karavas, Cyprus. She lived in Cyprus and worked as a seamstress until 1985. During a trip to the Unites States to visit family, she met her husband, George Karsos.
Eleni was active in both Church and community. She was an avid churchgoer and she enjoyed attending cultural events related to her family’s Cypriot heritage. She especially enjoyed music from her homeland. She loved cooking and barbecuing, especially being able to eat as a family outdoors. Her food and desserts were often requested for family parties and get-togethers, especially her pastitsio, flaounas, galaktoboureko, and bahklava. Eleni was a devoted mother and wife who put her family above all else.
Eleni loved music, always having it playing in the house the during the day. She valued her culture and traditions, but always adapted to and accepted change. She valued education and ensured her children did the same. She loved to laugh and tease, but always was the first to encourage and compliment with enthusiasm.
Eleni is survived by George, her loving husband of 34 years, her sons Ted and Kostas, her daughter Nia, her grandson Logan, and her brothers Andrea, Savva, and Peter.
Due to the current health crisis, a small private burial ceremony will be held. There will be a limited wake on Thursday May 7, 2020 from 4:00pm to 6:00pm for family. Contact Nia Karsos for arrangements.
