Dr. Babatunde Adekitan Ogunsanya (Babs)
September 24, 1947 – December 8, 2025
A Well-Lived Life
Dr. Babatunde Adekitan Ogunsanya, affectionately known as Babs, was born on September 24, 1947, on Lagos Island, Lagos, Nigeria, to Mr. Daniel Adekoya Ogunsanya and Mrs. Felicia Funlola Ogunsanya. He passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, December 8, 2025, surrounded by love and family.
Dr. Ogunsanya was a Prince, a great-great-grandson of Oba Alayeluwa Ademolu of the Anikilaya Ruling House of Ijebu-Ode, and carried himself with the quiet dignity, humility, and grace befitting both his heritage and his faith.
He began his education at Ereko Methodist Primary School in Lagos. He attended Ijebu Southern District Grammar School, Imodi-Ijasi, before transferring to United Local Authority Grammar School, where he completed his secondary education.
Through academic excellence, he earned a scholarship to study in the former USSR, attending Moscow State University, where he obtained both a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) and a Master of Science in Veterinary Medicine. During his time in Moscow, he developed a deep appreciation for Russian culture, learned to speak Russian fluently, and formed lifelong fondness for the people, traditions, and cuisine—especially borscht, which remained a favorite throughout his life.
Upon returning to Nigeria, Dr. Ogunsanya worked with the Lagos State Ministry of Agriculture before resigning to establish and operate his own private veterinary clinic, dedicating his career to animal health, welfare, and service to the community.
He was deeply interested in politics, particularly Nigerian affairs, and was well-versed in global politics and world events. A thoughtful and attentive listener, he was known for his quiet wisdom, calm presence, and genuine concern for others—especially the poor, vulnerable, and downtrodden.
Music brought him joy and comfort. His home was often filled with the soulful voice of Aretha Franklin and the vibrant rhythms of Fela Kuti, reflecting both his global outlook and deep cultural roots.
Above all, Dr. Ogunsanya was a man of deep and enduring Christian faith. His life was marked by prayer, humility, generosity, kindness, and steadfast devotion to God and family. He lived with gratitude and purpose, leaving a legacy of integrity, love, and gentle strength that touched all who knew him.
He is survived by his beloved wife; his sons and daughters; his grandchildren; his brother and sisters; and many cousins and in-laws, all of whom will forever cherish his memory and honor the values he lived by.
A funeral service centered on prayer, scripture, and thanksgiving to God will be held to celebrate his life and commit his soul into the hands of the Lord he served faithfully.
