Daniel Joseph Hartmann, Jr., 96, of Cresskill, NJ, passed away on July 5th, 2025, at home surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Union City, NJ on June 10th, 1929, to the late Daniel Joseph, Sr. and Mary (Arnold) Hartmann, he grew up in West New York, NJ and attended St. Joseph of the Palisades Elementary and Memorial High School. He married the former Anna Rose Farrelly in 1950. He served in the United States Marine Corps from 1952 to 1954. He moved to Ridgefield Park after his military service and raised his family there. He worked as a postal clerk in Fort Lee, NJ. After retiring in 1989, he moved to Tuckerton, NJ, and then to Little Egg Harbor Township, NJ, in 2007. He moved to Cresskill in 2017.
Daniel was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He is survived by his children, Daniel Hartmann (Ann) of Fairfax, VA; Neil Hartmann (Veronica) of Cresskill, NJ; Thomas Hartmann of Kingston, PA; James Hartmann (Donna) of Rutherford, NJ; Robert Hartmann (Jannie) of Newton, NJ; MaryAnn Harnett (Charles) of Ridgefield Park, NJ; fourteen grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, his parents, and his sister, Evelyn Hagerty.
Visitation will be held at Boulevard Funeral Home in New Milford on Tuesday, July 8th, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held at St Therese of Lisieux Catholic Church in Cresskill on July 9th at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be at a later time at Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Wrightstown, NJ.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Center for Food Action, 192 West Demarest Ave., Englewood, NJ 07631.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the Visiting Nurse Association of Englewood, whose hospice nurses and aides, especially Monika and Karleen, took such good care of Dan.
