Carolyn Youtz

Carolyn Youtz, 79, of New Milford, New Jersey, died peacefully at home in the morning of 11-23-23 after a period of declining health.  She grew up in Leonia, New Jersey the middle child of Richard and Adella Youtz.  As a girl she excelled in math and logic games.  She graduated from George School in Newtown, Pennsylvania.  She received her BA from Hiram College in Ohio and achieved a PhD in Psychology from Tufts University, Medford, Massachusetts.  While she was living near Boston in the 1980s she heard Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche speak and was drawn to his teachings and a Buddhist way of life.  She attended his Seminary and later worked at Karme Choling, Barnet, Vermont and Gampo Abby with   Pema Chodron  where she met Robert Crawford who became her committed life partner.  In the 1990s she returned to New Jersey and helped to emotionally support her elderly mother for many years. 

She never used her psychology degree for employment but worked as an accountant and bookkeeper.  More recently she became a home health aide and worked for Bayada Home Health where she had many satisfying relationships. She continued with her Buddhist practice through Nalandabodhi, following Ponlop Rinpoche, Shambhala and the Unconditional Healing Support Group of Jeff Rubin.

She leaves Robert Crawford, her on-going partner, and Ziggy, her beloved cat.  Also her brother, Ed Youtz and wife Mary Youtz, sister,  Kathy Wright and many nieces and nephews.  Memorial  Contributions may go to a charity of your choice, for cancer research, or to Nalandabodhi or Shambhala or the Unconditional Healing Support Group. 

 There will be a service November 26, 2023 at 2:00pm at Boulevard Funeral Home, New Milford,  New Jersey
