Arthur Rhode

Arthur R. Rhode, 83, passed away at his family home in New Milford, New Jersey on July 7th, 2025. Arthur was born May 4, 1942 at home in Ridgefield Park, NJ. He worked as a roofer with his brothers for many years and then as a custodian in Ridgefield Park school system where he was beloved by students and other staff. After retirement, he filled his days walking dogs and caring for his own. He loved being with friends and family, and spending time telling stories about days gone by. As the youngest of eight children, there were always plenty of family stories to go around. He was the last survivor of the siblings. Always a caretaker of his family, and ready with advice or the tools needed for any job, Arthur will forever be remembered as a good man by the people who knew him.

Arthur was preceded in death by his wife, Carol Rhode (née Herman, 1943-1987). After Carol’s death, he was a companion to Laura Flynn and made many good friends through her at the Pleasant Acres campground in Sussex, NJ. After Laura passed away, he maintained their trailer there until the present day and used it as a home away from home. He is survived by his children, Michael (Cathy Hunter) and Kimberly (Frank Grantham) and his beloved grandchildren Claire, Aaron, Kaitlyn, and Nicholas, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held Friday, July 11, 2025 from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm EDT at Boulevard Funeral Home. Burial will be on Saturday July 12, at George Washington cemetery. The procession will leave from the funeral home and proceed to the cemetery for an 11 am internment. There will be no religious service, but family and friends are invited to speak at either event.  In lieu of flowers, the family asks that any donations in his honor be sent to North Shore Animal League at https://www.animalleague.org/.
