A Jersey girl with a heart the size of Texas, Anne Elizabeth Dempsey was born on April 7th, 1985 in San Antonio and was raised in Dumont and Emerson, New Jersey. She was 38 when she passed away on July 12, 2023, from complications related to lupus. For those lucky enough to have loved her, this is a devastating loss. She was many things to many people: daughter, sister, aunt, niece, granddaughter, sister-in-law, friend, partner, confidant, babysitter, fishing buddy, furnace-master, dart tournament all-star, and adventuress. She is survived by her parents, Amy and John, her siblings, Keith and Cara, their spouses, Jess and Tom, her grandmother, Lucille, and her partner, Ian. She will be loved and missed by her extended family and friends.
Anne’s sense of humor was singular and infectious. Her volume, frequent malapropisms, and more-than-occasional curse word often shocked and always delighted. Even in moments of pain, stress, or sadness, there were moments bubbling over with laughter to be found.
Anne’s love language was not only gift-giving but, more specifically, going to any and all lengths she deemed necessary in order to pick you up a special treat. If a certain shop she thought you would love was a forty-minute drive away, she’d buckle up and head over. If she wanted to take you for a cup of the best hot cocoa in New Jersey and her favorite spot was an hour away, you were in for an adventure. Time and distance were not obstacles when Anne set her mind to something.
In her life, she experienced soaring highs and profound lows. At this time, we find comfort in the highs, the quirks and passions that made her twinkle and light up like one of her holiday headbands or glittery sunglasses. Anne will be remembered as a lover of the following: arriving late and ready to party, long drives, bakery runs, impeccable penmanship, scratch-offs and balloons on your birthday, on-theme attire, a sparkly shoe, a big bow, Weird New Jersey, Harley Quinn, singing along, Gilmore Girls marathons, stoking the campfire, fishing with the boys, a long afternoon in Nyack or Cold Spring, a quick stop at Dunkin that could take an hour or two, fantasy football, Christmas morning, the beach, the pool, a good long spa day, a great manicure, cars, and showing up for the people that she loved in the moments that counted the most.
A memorial gathering will be held on Saturday, July 22nd from 1:00 PM - 5:00 PM at Boulevard Funeral Home in New Milford, New Jersey.
