Alan Joseph Alfonso, born on October 9, 1961, in New York City to Cuban immigrants Joseph and Onelia Alfonso, was a self-proclaimed "beach bum" who grew up in Far Rockaway, New York, during the 1970's. A member of the 1975 Far Rockaway High School NYC Champion swimming team, Alan earned individual honors in freestyle.
With over 20 years of experience as a pharmacist's assistant, Alan was also a skilled tradesman with expertise in plumbing and construction. He was an avid paddleball player, having won multiple tournaments. In his leisure time, Alan enjoyed classic rock and R&B, with a particular fondness for artists such as Chicago, Earth Wind and Fire, Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, AC/DC, and Stevie Wonder.
Alan was a devoted husband to his wife of 26 years, Alicia Garcia Alfonso, until her passing on July 4, 2020. He is survived by his children, Daniel and Rebecca; his brother, Raymond; his father-in-law, Jose; his sisters-in-law, Jackie, Susan, and Christine; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and a great-nephew. He will be greatly missed by his church family, having made Jesus his Lord before his passing. He was preceded in death by his wife and his parents.
His surviving family will deeply miss his exuberant smile, infectious laugh, and generous spirit. Alan was a beloved man, cherished by all who knew him.
