Francis D’Souza, age 83, of Bergenfield, NJ, peacefully joined Our Lord on May 23, 2019. Born in India, he was the 4th out of eight children. He was a school teacher, like his father, and later became Head Master and Inspector of Schools. Francis lived the majority of his life in Udupi, India, until immigrating to the United States in 1996. Francis was a loving and devoted husband to his wife and recently celebrated his 50th wedding anniversary surrounded by family and friends. A loving son, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, great uncle and friend, Francis always cared for those around him. He loved the outdoors, nature, gardening, traveling, and music. His hobbies included philately and numismatics. He was very interested in history, geography, and current affairs.
Francis was a long time member of the Society of St. Vincent De Paul and served as Secretary of the Udupi Parish chapter for many years. As a devout Catholic, he belonged to the St. John the Evangelist Parish in Bergenfield, NJ. Always with a kind word to share, people loved his soft demeanor and the natural way he told stories. Francis welcomed and embraced everyone and was a man admired for his genuineness, humble ways, and neverending kindness towards others.
Francis is survived by his loving wife, Pascalia Juliana, children Gloria, Godwin and wife Krista, Gladson and wife Oana, Beatrice, grandsons Gregor and Albert, sisters Monica D’Souza, Pauline De Braganca and husband Vicente, Jessie D’Silva, brother Henry D’Souza and wife Leena D’Souza, nephews Kevin and wife Alexis and children, Kenneth and wife Betty and children, and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends residing in Canada and India.
As family and friends mourn the loss of a great man, they are reminded that “Those we love don’t walk away, they walk beside us everyday. Unseen, unheard, but always near, still loved, still missed and very dear (author unknown).”
