Vincent Mohan Obituary

Vincent Henry Mohan was 71 years old when he passed away on Tuesday, November 8, 2022.

Vincent was born October 1, 1951 in Paterson, NJ to Agnes and Vincent J. Mohan.  Vincent grew up in Pompton Lakes, NJ with his 4 sisters, Marie, Carolyn, Annie, and Agnes. Vincent went to St. Joseph Seraphic Seminary in Callicoon NY high school from 1965 - 1969. He received his bachelor's degree in Special Education from William Paterson College. It was there that he met the love of his life, Eileen Leahy. They were married on June 29, 1974 after graduation.

Vincent worked as a special education teacher for several years in High Point Regional High School in Wantage, NJ.  After years in the classroom he decided to go back to William Paterson for his masters to become a Learning Disabled Teacher Consultant. He never really left the classroom completely, though. Vincent’s passion for the Civil War led him to purchase a Union Soldier uniform and accessories. He was able to make learning about the Civil War come alive with his annual presentation to the students in High Point Regional High School.

In 1996, Vincent’s love of learning and reading was put to the test. He impressed his family and friends with his extensive knowledge when he was a contestant on Jeopardy. Vincent was able to secure second place on Jeopardy against a five-day champion. In 2000, he astonished again when he won first place on History I.Q.  Anyone that played Trivial Pursuit with Vincent, knew him to be a formidable opponent!

After over 25 years in Education, Vincent retired to enjoy his time with his growing family and his growing collection of books. In his retirement, Vincent met a lot of great friends as a part-time employee at Van Saun County Park. Vincent drove the train, operated the carousel, and sold tickets. He earned the unofficial title, “Mr. Happy” from those who knew him best at Van Saun.

Vincent is survived by his beloved wife, Eileen (Leahy) Mohan of 48 years. He was a devoted father to Andrew Mohan and his fiance, Danielle (Bronner) Albrizio, Elizabeth (Mohan) Frullo and her husband, Shaun Frullo, Timothy Mohan and his wife Becky (Ripley) Mohan. Vincent was the loving Grandfather to Henry and Lily Mohan, Noelle and Nikki Albrizio, Jack and Jenna Frullo, and Cooper and Carter Mohan.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that any donations be made in Vincent’s name to either St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Gettysburg Foundation.
