Marie and Hubert Weidinger Obituary

Marlies Weidinger was 78 when she passed away on Friday October 9th, just 6 short weeks after losing her husband, Hubert Weidinger, on August 28th.  He was 87.  After 55 happy years of happy marriage, it is fitting that we remember them together.

Hubert was born in Schweinfurt, Germany on December 3, 1932.  He started out in the family carpentry business, working his way up to Master Craftsman as a cabinet maker.  Hubert switched careers twice, first studying music in Munich and then later becoming an architectural draftsman after immigrating to the United States.  He took pride in having worked on many skyscrapers in New York City.

Marlies was born in Kirchboitzen, Germany on November 1, 1941.  With limited opportunities in her small farming town, she left to attend boarding school for high school.  Looking for adventure, Marlies immigrated to the United States where she eventually attended Montclair College and Iowa University.  She studied to become a teacher and taught German at Indian Hills High School.

Hubert and Marlies met while taking English classes when they first arrived in the US in the early 1960’s.  They married and built a home and family in Dumont, NJ.  Marlies loved to read and filled the house with books.  Hubert enjoyed working with his hands and always had a home improvement project going.  They stayed in Dumont for 50 years because they loved their neighbors with whom they played tennis, celebrated Holidays, and often vacationed.  Staying true to their heritage, they were active in the Deutscher Club of Clark where they loved to dance and spend time with friends.  Hubert pursued his love of music, singing with the Saengerchor Newark choir.  They both enjoyed skiing, hiking, and playing tennis together.  Marlies continued to compete enthusiastically in tennis until last year and often spoke with fondness of her tennis friends.  Hubert and Marlies had a very successful retirement together, travelling the world and enjoying time with their grandchildren.

They are survived by their daughter Anita (Jonathan), son Michael (Janet), and grandchildren Katie and Tommy.  Anita and Michael thank them for being loving and supportive parents.  They will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.
