Crescencio Royce Paes

Crescencio Royce Paes, 76, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family in Bergenfield, New Jersey on January 11, 2020, a year after been diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS).

Born on May 21, 1943 in Goa to the late Joseph and Felicia Paes, Royce was an avid trumpeter, having first picked up a trumpet while in school and not letting go of it well into his golden years.  His yearning for faraway lands combined with his calm and persevering nature, would take him from South Asia (Sri Lanka and India) to the Middle East (Kuwait) to Europe (Germany) and eventually to America, the promised land. 

A family man through and through, Royce leaves behind a loving wife of 45 years, Zamira, 2 sons and 5 grandchildren; Lawrence, his wife Agata, and their 3 children, Jasmine, James and Jonathan of Bergenfield, New Jersey, and Kenneth, his wife Paulina and their 2 children, Lilli and Maja of Wachtberg, Germany; and many loving nieces, nephews and relatives.

There will be a memorial gathering at Boulevard Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 1151 River Road, New Milford, NJ 07646 from 1pm to 4pm (13:00 to 16:00) on Sunday January 19, 2020.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent by mail to The ALS Association, Gift Processing Center, PO Box 37022, Boone, IA 50037-0022 or online at www.alsa.org/donate to help find a cure for ALS.
