Steven Hahn Obituary

Dr. Steven Sang Ho Hahn, 80, passed away on Sunday, August 18, 2019, following complications from surgery at Milstein Hospital in New York City.

Steven is survived by his wife Shelley, his son Richard Hahn, his daughter-in-law Janella Hong, his daughter Deborah Shin, his daughter Christine Oh, his son-in-law John Oh, his youngest daughter Melissa Hahn; and his 8 grandchildren, Owen Shin, Hayden Shin, Kieran Shin, Alexander Oh, Samuel Oh, Erin Oh, August Hahn, and Justine Hahn.

Steven was born and raised in Seoul, Korea, the son of Yong Pyo Hahn and Ok Jin Shim. He graduated from Whimoon High School in 1958. Steven’s father was a professor at Severance Medical School and his grandfather was one of the first to bring westernized medicine to Korea. In line with family tradition, Steven graduated from Severance Medical School in 1964.

Dr. Hahn moved to the U.S. in 1964, where he met and married his first wife, Susan Jung Sook Hong, in 1967. Susan was also a physician, and together they had three children. Dr. Hahn completed his radiology residency in 1970 at Hahnemann University in Philadelphia, PA. He began a successful 27-year career as a practicing radiologist at Mercer Medical Center in Trenton, NJ. Dr. Hahn was known for his exceptional knowledge base and work ethic throughout his career.

In 1984, Steven endured the sudden loss of his first wife in an automobile accident. In 1985, he was blessed with a new relationship and marriage to his wife, Shelley, also a practicing physician. They had one daughter and were married for 34 years.

In 2000, Steven retired from practicing medicine and moved to St. Petersburg, Florida. After enjoying 13 years there, he and Shelley moved to Fort Lee, NJ. Steven was an active member of the Whimoon High School and Severance Medical School alumni groups. He was an avid golfer and found a new passion in recent years learning how to play the accordion. Steven was a devoted Christian and served as an elder in his church while he lived in Florida. During his time in Fort Lee he was a faithful member of Grace Redeemer Church, where he enjoyed participating in fellowship groups and the church choir. Steven was a kind and loving man who greatly valued his family and friends. He believed in being true to oneself, that it is never too late to change, and to always trust in the Lord.
