Colleen Anne Permaul of Elmwood Park, New Jersey passed away on May 8, 2019 at the age of 57. Colleen was born in Georgetown, Guyana to Hazel Thomas and the late Colin Permaul. She attended Smith Church High School. Colleen spent a lot of her leisurely time in Guyana visiting the seaport, going to parties and spending time with her friends and family; especially dearly departed Auntie Hillon. Colleen was known for entertaining people with her cooking and being a gentle soul dedicated to helping others. In 1986, Colleen emigrated to the United States to obtain a better life for her children and to be with her immediate family who also came over from Guyana. She worked at Keystone and resided in Paterson before ultimately moving to Elmwood Park NJ. Colleen is survived by her children; Marcellus Eon Nichols and Marilyn Monique Nichols, her grandchildren; Anayah Vivian Dixon, Kwesi Orlando Dixon and baby Kobe, siblings; Nigel Permaul, Shelly Permaul, Sabrina Permaul, Marcy Blakeney, Joylyn Melissa Ford and Libia Thomas, her mother; Hazel Thomas, her grandmother; Berle Niles her Aunt Jenny and a host of nieces and nephews. A viewing will be held on Thursday, May 16, 2019 in the Funeral Home from 4:00pm to 7:00pm. A prayer service will begin at 7:00pm.
